New Releases Watches

Introducing: Christopher Ward C60 Abyss Watch

Christopher Ward C60 Abyss

If Tudor’s Only Watch offering told us anything, it’s that there’s a huge demand for blacked out watches. Sure, they’re impossible to read during the day, but they’re cool enough for that to not matter. As ever, Christopher Ward has been quick to jump on the all-black bandwagon – and may have outdone themselves this time – with the C60 Abyss.

Part of the Trident 3 family, Abyss is the right word for this stealthy diver. The 42mm stainless steel case is draped in gunmetal DLC with a black bezel and caseback. The dial too is in brushed black, with a black ceramic bezel insert. It’s deep, dark and brooding – except for a couple of flashes of red on the diving bezel and the second hand.

It might seem hard to read a first, but just turn the lights out and give it a go. The indexes are covered in black lume, which gives off an eerie green glow, meaning that its actually easier to read in the dark – ideally a few hundred metres down – than it is during the day.

At the centre of the watch is the Sellita SW200 calibre automatic movement, a reliable workhorse. It comes with an anti-shock system and a 38-hour power reserve to survive all eventualities.

This isn’t the first all-black watch out there and it won’t be the last. But as ever Christopher Ward has hopped well ahead of the curve and pulled out the stops for one of their coolest watches yet. At the very least, it’s a serious piece of diving action – even if it’s not too practical on the shore.
