Things have been a little quiet on the SevenFriday front of late but now it looks like the accessible collector’s darling is back and tapping into the rose-tinted retro zeitgeist with the resurgence of the ultra-cool T-Series.
The T2/02 is pure SevenFriday, with it’s squared shape and stark, skeletonised dial. In fact, it fits flawlessly into the brand’s DNA, down to the smaller, slimmer (for the brand) 45mm case shape. But where other pieces have taken on a more modern, almost futuristic aesthetic, the T2/02 is different.
The usual blues and silvers have been replaced with warmer colours, with golds and browns imitating ageing wood and leather hues. The dial, while not quite rose-tinted, is even made from a lens from a pair of sunglasses, giving it a lovely brown tint, with the technical-looking hour ring picked out in white.
Finished with a rose gold crown and chunky leather bracelet, it’s a new look for SevenFriday. It’s also a new movement, too. Instead of the usual Miyota movements, the T2/02 is equipped with an upgraded Seiko number, the TMI NH70. It has a 40-hour power reserve and has been nicely skeletonised.
The new watch is a step forward for SevenFriday and hopefully a sign of plenty more to come. We’ve missed them. At the very least, it’s a cool new watch and, at EUR 841, is an impulse buy if ever we saw one.
