Urwerk UR-100V Magic T Edition Adds Intense Metallic Grey to Their Titanium Satellite Hours

Urwerk produce some of the most alien looking timepieces on the market, with designs that wouldn’t look out of place on a spaceship. However, while they might be daunting to look at, taking a closer look reveals precise engineering, a legible display and a wealth of intriguing information. This is the Urwerk UR-100V Magic T, a new edition of their signature wandering hours timepiece.

Before we tackle what’s new, let’s dispel some of the mystery of the display. A wandering hours – or satellite hours as Urwerk calls it – display works by having a static 60-minute scale that the hours then pass by as they rotate around one of three small discs that are in turn rotating around the centre of the dial. The time can be told by looking at the hour that is currently passing by the minute scale based on how far along the scale it is.

The UR-100V also features some additional scales flanking the minute scale which allow you to track the Earth’s rotation on its axis and the Earth’s rotation around the sun every 20-minutes. Which if you’re wondering is 555km and 35,740km respectively. It’s almost enough to give you an existential crisis as you recall that even when we’re standing still we’re rocketing through the universe insanely fast.

This new edition of the UR-100V, the Magic T, introduces a new metallic colourway to the collection. It’s a light grey titanium, joining 2021’s dark grey titanium model. Beneath the new light grey case is the same movement we’re familiar with, the UR12.02 automatic with 48-hour power reserve.

As for pricing and availability, the Urwerk UR-100V Magic T is a limited edition priced at CHF 58,000 (approx. £52,400). Considering that, genuinely, the slightly lighter grey tone is all that’s new about the Magic T, it’s a slightly disappointing new release, particularly in comparison to the release of radically different editions like the Electrum. However, that criticism might be overly harsh as the light grey does suit the model really well and in fact it’s one of the smartest editions they’ve ever produced, although I also said that about the 2021 titanium edition, go figure.
